I had spoken to Gep about taking over ownership the JERB server to allow me to fund it, but if I did this I would really want to allow all players to be able to play as we always have - without restrictions on what you can and cannot do. I’m not sure I could do this on Cubedhost.
Lately Scriv, as the only real admin has been having a hard time keeping the server running and without him being about you would not have a JERB server at all as it would have lagged to a sad end days or weeks ago.
As we all expand our machines and playing areas the server specs we have just cannot keep up. Easy answer seems to be a simple one, just add more ram. But… Cubedhost is not the cheapest host out there and getting our systems to the level they need to be is beyond our current funding capacity. A 4gb server on Cubed is $64 a month!
I have agreed to try and fund the server as much as possible, but I can’t afford to host a 4gb server on Cubedhost. Scriv and myself have been looking at what is out there, with the emphasis on good ping and low lag. I’m not saying we must move host, but there does seem to be a lot of better offers out there.
However we do not intend to do anything without players’ agreement. What we have been trying to do is find a reliable host where we can either copy our existing world over, or start anew but allow growth past where we are now on a new world without having this issue again.
I really welcome your comments. It’s always a risk moving hosts, but cost has to come in to it somewhere.
