Maybe someone has a spawner on, or is pumping lava from the nether.

I've been reading a lot today to see how other servers combat lag, as most have more players online than we do.
Biggest issue seems to be the chunk loaders. if there is any bad machine set ups or exp grinders left on, without chunk loaders these are not as issue as the chunk de-spawns once the player logs out, but on our server we probably have the equivalent to 100 players online ALL THE TIME as the chunk loaders are keeping large areas of the world loaded.
Now i use chunk-loaders as much as anyone - I have 5 in use at the moment, but I do try to keep these as small as possible by building withing a chunks boundary. i would however be willing to try out the server without chunk loaders if this led to better play for everyone.

its not so much the chunkloaders but more how they are used, for example if you load your power supply in one chunk, but the cables run from that one chunk to say another 5 chunks it then loads all 6 chunks. So you may only be loading 1 chunk with the loader but the game requires all connected chunks (via cables) to be loaded too.
Today i found a cobble/lava setup at musi's spewing out cobble on the floor, also timers set to a fast rate will also increase server tick which causes lag.
also light updates are another thing that increases server resource usage (wrath lamps).
it would also appear that routers trying to server a large amount of machines/inventory slots can also increase lag.

and what about the clean up thing we talked about have u talked with gep? no, more concerned with the lag problems than what you leave behind due to 'another' move.

No more chunloaders, quarrys, timers and wrath lamps problem solved. Just need to stop people leaving there stuff on 24h a day and we will have a fully working server. Every time we mention people cleaning the water flows in there quarrys they seem to fall on deaf ears and blind eyes. Constant moving due to people quarrying the crap out of there's and others bases doesn't help the server so you actually creating more of a problem to give yourself an easier life.
I'm currently creating UU to make more Solars for base power and more UU this will now take a life time as chunkloaders are gonna be set to only work when the owner is online. I dont quarry and clean up my mess if others did the same we wouldnt have this constant drain on the server resources.
I think people who leave there stuff on and if its spitting out items should get a few day ban, and have a 3 strike a month rule, 3 strikes a month and your outa here.

i think world anchors will still work as they are not chicken chunks, but unlike a chunkloader they will run out and stop after a time.

My chunkloader only loads 1 chunk im currently loading 2 1 for UU one for portal gun. If i could set a world anchor to 1 chunk i would be happier but if i load 9 i will end up wasting 8 chunks of server resources.
